Thì, thể và sự hoà hợp của động từ

⚠️Bẫy thường gặp — các lỗi hay mất điểm
- Hiện tại hoàn thành × mốc quá khứ cụ thể: ✕ I have visited Tokyo in 2019 → ○ I visited Tokyo in 2019.
- Nhầm lẫn since / for: since + mốc thời gian (since 2021) / for + khoảng thời gian (for two years). ✕ since three years.
- recently / lately hợp với hiện tại hoàn thành (have done / have been doing). Khó dùng với quá khứ đơn.
- Trong mệnh đề by the time không dùng thì tương lai: ✕ by the time the conference will start → ○ by the time the conference starts.
- by và until: by = "hoàn thành trước thời điểm đó" / until = "duy trì cho đến thời điểm đó". Lưu ý dạng phủ định not … until.
- Dạng tương lai hoàn thành bị động: will have been + p.p. (The audit will have been completed by Friday.)
- Nội động từ không bị động được: happen / occur / arrive / appear không có dạng bị động (✕ was happened).
- Thể của apply: apply A to B (chủ động) / A is applied to B (bị động). Tuỳ chủ ngữ mà chọn thể tự nhiên.
- Quyết định sự hoà hợp dựa vào hạt nhân của chủ ngữ: The number of users is high / A number of users are joining.
- either/neither/each/every là số ít; both/several/many là số nhiều. "as well as" và "together with" KHÔNG biến chủ ngữ thành số nhiều.
- Sự hoà hợp của There is/are theo chủ ngữ thật ở sau (There are a number of issues.).
- Các động từ thường không có dạng tiếp diễn: know / believe / belong / contain... (✕ is knowing).
- Dùng sai quá khứ hoàn thành: không dùng had + p.p. nếu không có một mốc quá khứ khác để đối chiếu.
- Sau trợ động từ luôn là động từ nguyên mẫu (must / can / will + V). ✕ will inspects / musts go.
- Danh từ tập hợp (staff / team / company) cần nhất quán số ít/nhiều. Riêng police thường dùng số nhiều (The police are ...).
